The name Linder can be traced back for centuries in the archives of the blade city of Solingen. The majority of the people with this family name were cutlers, grinders and mess makers (knife makers). Linder was a family business that was passed from one generation to the next. At the end of the 19th century, Carl Linder was the owner of the business. After his death, Paul Rosenkaimer showed an interest in buying the manufactory.

In 1937 Carl W. Linder's widow sold the family business to the cutler Paul Rosenkaimer. Since the change of ownership, Linder has grown significantly and expanded its range.
