Windmill Knife Buckels

Breakfast and snack knife

Born from the rural tradition of Germany, this windmill knife Buckels plum with its special blade shape has been manufactured by us unchanged for over 140 years according to the principle of the "Solingen thin cut".
The Humpback blade, also known as the old German table knife, shows with its unmistakable shape its independent character, shaped by its special tasks, namely cutting and painting. It is wide for a good cut, sharp, so that you do not need to use another knife for hard sausages. With the round tip, such an expensive product as butter can be spread thinly and sparingly.

Their smooth, thin section cuts bread and especially bread rolls without leaving unwanted lumps of crumbs in the middle. It doesn't need a serrated edge, by the way. The blade is made of stainless steel.
Like all classic windmill knives, it has a nice wooden handle that fits comfortably in the hand. Thus a sharp all-rounder for the kitchen and the table.

Why are you called Buckelsklinge ?:

The name of the blade of the windmill knife hump plum originally comes from the word "belly", in Low German "buck" because of the round, bulbous blade shape.

Often, however, the round, broad point, which is not a point and looks like a hump due to the distinctive back curve, is also named as the originator.

From a knife-science point of view, it is one of the oldest blade shapes in Germany and is therefore called "ancient German".

Windmill knife:

Solid craftsmanship has played a decisive role in the “windmill” since the founding of the company. The art of knife sharpening was uncompromising, honest work. Essentially nothing has changed in that regard to this day. It is sensitive, skilled work that has been learned over many years and requires skillful, sensitive hands, patience and a good eye. In contrast to most knives of today, the "windmill knives" are still ground according to the "Solingen thin grinding" principle and "fine or blue-peened" by hand (plied is a special fine grinding). "Plied" has always been one of the most complex grinding techniques in Solingen. “Reiden und Ausmachen”, the assembly of the handles on the blades and the fine finishing and polishing of the wooden handles by hand are also among these crafts that are still used today in windmill knives.
