The woad cutlery was originally a tool set, consisting of an oversized woad knife (often also referred to as a pasture knife, roach or praxe) and various other pieces of cutlery such as the chopping needle. The roach was equipped with a heavy, wide blade and a short handle as a tool for breaking up and cutting up game, cutting off bones and horns.
